Okay, how cute are these little guys? The Canon Photography Group at Johnson PhotoImaging went to Cape Coral to shoot Burrowing Owls. These little guys when full grown are only around 9” tall. They burrow in the ground and lay their eggs. The young owls remain with their parents until they are 12 weeks old. We were lucky enough to have four babies in one of the burrows.
These owls have amazing yellow eyes with a white chin. They eat mostly insects so they are good to have around. Burrowing owls like to perch on post nearby to have a better viewpoint. They can be found throughout the state of Florida and Caribbean Islands as well as other parts of western Canada, United States and South America.
Thank you Michael Arbor and Johnson PhotoImaging for offering this great meet up group. The area was so convenient and the burrows were very close to the road so you didn’t have to have a really long lens. I was using my Tamron 18-270mm lens for these shoots.
